Regular review

A review of how an individual is progressing during speech and language therapy will be an opportunity to assess an individual's progress of initial goals and a chance to review these and set new goals and outcomes. Manchester SLT's speech and language therapist will also provide reviews regarding an individual's eating and drinking difficulties.

What will a review involve?

A speech and language therapy review will involve a review of current speech and language therapy goals and targets and may include speech and language therapy assessment and observation to determine an individual's current speech, language and communication abilities. The speech and language therapy review will be done by the speech and language therapist.

Why would a patient need a speech and language therapy review?

A client may need a speech and language therapy review to map progress and ensure both client and therapist are happy with progress. A review may also highlight when it is time to set new targets. Reviews may also be necessary in the following cases:

• A school review.
• A review to see if an individual needs any extra support regarding their communication or communication aids.
• A review of an individual's special educational needs.
• A review of an individual's care plan or eating and drinking plan.
• A review of an individual's mental capacity and ability to make decisions.

Speech and language therapy reviews can be carried out on a regular or longer term basis which will depend on the reasons for needing a review and also the individual's specific speech, language and communication needs.
